To critically evaluate how the stages of team formation relate to the success or failure of project leadership, Tuckman’s team building model which explain the five forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning stages of the team formation (please see appendix 1) and Blanchard’s situational leadership model which explain the four leadership styles that a leader should adopt during.
Tuckman’s Stages of Team Development model explains how a team develops over time. The five stages of development are: Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, and Adjourning. According to Tuckman he says that all of the phases are necessary and inevitable.
Bruce Tuckman first proposed the forming-storming-norming-performing model of group development in 1965. He maintained that all four stages were necessary for a team to grow. The fifth stage, adjourning or mourning, of Tuckman's theory came in 1977 jointly with Mary Ann Jenson.
